Help me out oppo:

He was looking at a Nissan Altima, and a Chevy Malibu, he is also considering a Cruze.

I recommended a Mazda 6 and didn’t have anything bad to say about the Cruze, or the Malibu as a transportation appliance so long as it has the 2.0 turbo. What are your recommendations for new cars in the 20-30k range for a Californian, his son lives out there.

Two Mirages?

Ditch the Altima. If he goes for the Cruze just make sure it’s the turbo. It looks like he’s not quite sure whether he wants a compact or midsize, has he looked at the Mazda3?

Miata ND...

But the new Chevy Malibu isn't that bad looking of a car. I'd recommend that of the 3.

You REALLY like the Mirage ….. Seeing how you’re a MR2 driver this confuses me.

Mazda 6, or Volkswagen Jetta TDI. Fusion turbo, maybe?

The Accord and Camry are the best choices, or possibly the Civic and Corolla for something smaller.

It’s the only car for sale in America that weighs under 2000 lbs. That alone is pretty awesome.

Impreza/WRX, Legacy, BRZ? Accord? Focus? Tacoma and a used/new bike? Golf Sportwagen?

Personally I wouldn’t go with something new from GM (corvette excluded), but that’s just my personal preference. Also I would go with the trim that has the least infotainment and then just swap in a good head unit.

Mazda 6, Mazda 6, Mazda 6. I finally caved and drove one a couple weeks ago and I seriously can’t understand why anyone would consider most of the competition - especially the Altima or Malibu. Altima is plasticky, slow, and boring as all get out. Malibu is.. GM.

Find a Mazda 6 Grand Touring in blue with the grey wheels and it reminds me of an Aston style-wise. Driving wise it reminds me of.. well, fun! Loads of fun. Insane amounts of fun. Like, shouldn’t be this much fun kind of fun.

Or for $25k get a Touring with sunroof, Bose stereo and all kinds of goodies the others can’t touch at the price point.

Seriously, the only others I’m considering are the Focus ST (completely different ballgame) or Accord Sport with MT.

If he isn’t an enthusiast, it’s the correct choice. They are reliable appliances, which is all non car people need.

Not to mention it’s a 4-door weighing less than 2000 lb!

My brother recently acquired a new Accord and loves it (he’s still an enthusiast, just one that likes to wait for his fun). From what I can tell driving it once and riding in it multiple times, it does its job.

A certain Man of Montegos mentioned you were looking for Ford 2 barrel carburetors. Is that still the case?

Not any longer. I found a quadrajet and a 4bbl intake. Thanks for thinking of me though.
